Job description:
We are a group of well-established automotive dealerships committed to excellence in customer service, integrity, and performance. We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead our financial team, ensure sound fiscal management, and support our strategic growth across all dealerships.
Position Overview:
The Controller will oversee all financial operations for multiple dealership locations. This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage accounting teams, streamline processes, and provide accurate, timely financial reporting.
Duties of the Controller include:
- Oversee daily cash flow management, bank reconciliations, and all treasury-related transactions.
- Manage relationships with financial institutions and captive finance companies to secure optimal terms and credit facilities.
- Supervise and review accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and management reports in accordance with ASPE or relevant Canadian accounting standards.
- Ensure internal controls are maintained to protect dealership assets and ensure accurate reporting.
- Monitor floor plan financing, inventory funding, and capital expenditures.
- Coordinate with external auditors , tax advisors, and government agencies to ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations.
- Support leadership in developing financial policies, risk management strategies, and long-term capital planning.
- Provide financial insights to dealership management to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline (CPA designations strongly preferred).
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive financial management experience, ideally within the automotive, heavy equipment, or retail industry.
- In-depth understanding of Ontario and federal tax laws, financial reporting requirements, and dealership accounting systems (e.g., CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, PBS).
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and lead a team effectively.
- Strong analytical, communication, and decision-making skills.
